'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the dramatic dying seconds of Swansea's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a fan's glasses following the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful strike from 25 yards, and his teammate immediately hammered in the rebound before charging toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with supporters mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory capped an incredible comeback given the team had trailed 2-0 midway through the latter period. In the delirium, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory earned a next round fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right flank after Orient changed shape. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

City's Quality

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they are adept at manage and slow down a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be alert every second of the game. It requires a tough attitude and focus just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at his former club and has rapidly replicated that in Wales. At his previous team he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford City, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without real physicality. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that growth for club and country, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the past five games, including both legs fixtures against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

It has been a remarkable path for the kid from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

His sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was sealed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he recalls, chuckling. "The days leading up, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "It was fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I knew I wasn't going to make it at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I thought I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself a teammate, Ronald, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to interact with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and driving. His teammate is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on public transport after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
