Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Officers reported they were alerted by a man who found a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.

A senior political figure commented the attack rendered him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
